New Year New (Painting) Me!

Hello once again all to my Yearly wrap-up!

So its that time of year again where I show off all the last models I panted this year and tally up my total.

Which, I'm going to be honest, was not much....

Seems in the last half of the year I just zonked out and was not motivated to paint at all.  I did man age a few things, but overall not much.  So lets take a look at the Things I did finish up.

So to start off we have the Truthsayer from the Albion campaign book.  I've has this model primed on my desk for years.  I decided to paint it up with contrast paints and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.  Especially the skin.  When I finished this bad boy I was also going through my boxes of partially finished minis and decided to go whole hog on a mini project.

Behold!  My Hobgoblin Horde!  Or, more specifically, the Hobgoblin half of my Chaos Dwarf army.  Now many of these were already partially painted.  I just had to properly base, wash and highlight them.  I painted most of this stuff in 2006 and now they are finally done.  Now I just gotta refresh my actual Chaos Dwarfs.

Next up!

One Black Orc!!

Yeah I know, it's not that much be he's a test model for the colour scheme I want.  He came out pretty good and I'm happy with it.  Now I just got to do it 23 more times.

Alright next up

Behold my Marienburg Warband!  Now this is a shot of the whole team after a game of Mordheim.  with the exception of two many of these were refresh paint jobs, also one I painted early last year.  I just grabbed these from my pile of Empire minis and went to town on them.  I was inspired by Mordheim so I decided to finish one last model before the end of the year.

One Skaven Rat Ogre!  Pretty basic and I painted it pretty fast but he's done.  With that last model lets count up all I've done this year.

*Drum Roll*

100 models!....I'm actually pretty shocked.  I didn't realise I had managed that many given how I've barely painted over the last 6 months.  Also, quite a bit was repainting.  But I'm happy with everything and I hope to break this record next year! (This year I guess)

Until next time!

Buring Through my Pile!

Hello once again all!

So here I am just pounding the pavement and getting things done.  Looking over my pile I decided to focus on my original plan and get these half done models finished!!

Three Dunedain warriors for the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game!.  I dont know if anyone remembers on this blog, but I started painting these in 2016.  There they sat, half painted for almost 10 years.  Now they are done!  Off to the finished pile with you!

Speaking of Lord of the Rings...

Faramir and a Gondorian standard.  I bought both of these relatively recently and figured I could pound them out fast.  Which I did!  Only thing that prevented them from being done faster was me waiting for the wash to dry.  Of course I didn't just sit around not painting while I was waiting...

Dungeon Terrain!  I know, not much to them.  But they are done and also off the table!  Despite all this I did take a detour from the prepped models on my desk...

My last two Stone Trolls!  Yes I was sidetracked by these guys.  I saw them on a shelf and base coated them and painted them all in the same day.  Also put in the extra effort and got the Movement tray done too.

Here we see them sitting with a Troll I painted a few years ago.  Now they are all done and ready for the battle field!

So with 9 more models done I am off to continue the long slow paint war...

Another Update? SHOCKING!!!!

Hello all!

Well I'm back again with more to share.  I know I only tend to monthly updates but lets break the trend!  Lets make NEW trends!  Lets show off what I managed to paint...

The Mines of Moria Terrain set!

Now, I had already painted and showed off a few of these minis already.  Specifically the door and the trapdoor as well as one of the dead scatter dwarfs.  Now I painted the pillars, well, tomb and more scatter dwarfs!

This set is one I bought used online so its actually missing one of the scatter pieces but that's no biggy.  If I want to do the LOTR scenario, I don't really need it.  In fact, I am so close to having everything I need to do the Mines of Moria scenario...we'll just have to wait and see!

Next up!

40k Terrain!  Okay, technically 3rd party 3d printed terrain for generic space game.  But I intend to use these for a Kill Team board in the future.  Just need to get more buildings to fill a board.

And with that done its time to work on more stuff...

Stay Tuned!

Summer Is coming to a close...

Hello once again all!

I am back and ready to get my paint on!  I have a brand new pile of based minis to paint as well as a bunch of refresh projects I wanna get done.  So far this year my paint total has been stellar!  But there are a few other projects I wanna finish before I get to them...

I have been holding back on completing this Balrog for a long....LONG time.  Now I plan on getting it done.  Got to glue it together and  then Green stuff the gaps (of which there are a LOT).  IN addition I have to do one thing I am dreading...

The wing tip here is missing.  Its just how I got the mini when it was bought (for pretty cheap btw).  SO I'll have to do something I hate...sculpting with greenstuff.  Luckily this should be relatively easy to do...maybe.  We shall see how this all plays out!

Until next time!

March Mostly Done....am I Even Painting?

Hello all!

I am back!  Honestly been a slow month compared to the last 2 but I have been working on stuff.  Nothing too big but I have been clearing off some stuff I have taking up space since last March.  So without further ado...

Bunch of D&D terrain!  The minis themselves aren't super big but having these blisters taking up space is now no longer an issue.  13 Models down and more in the pipeline.  Speaking of Pipeline...

I have a few more pieces of scatter I want to get done.  One Mantic Blacksmith set as well as Doors to Moria and some treasure!  Once done I can move on to something bigger.

Stay Tuned!

October Painting SPREEEE!

Hello one and all and welcome back!

So after a whole week off I sat down and managed to get through a whole hella lotta stuff!  My main "pile" I was working on is mostly done with a few stragglers and new pile waiting to be next!

So with that said lets take a look at all I've done!

Two OOP River Trolls! I love these models and they were really fun to paint.  Took me awhile to figure out what colours to use to pull it off.  Once I finally decided on what I wanted I wasn't too sure they would look good.  Boy am I glad they came out great!

Next up...

5 pieces of scatter terrain!  Four pieces of LOTR terrain for the Mines of Moria and the grate from the Blasted Hallowheart set.  Finally finished that up and now just have 2 chests to work on.

With that said....

5 Bossonian Archers for my Conan board game.  Oh god I'll never get this project done.  But I am officially 1/3rd of the way through the box...skeletons are up next most likely...

But before that...

Old school OOP Metal Plaguebearer!  Now this was mostly a test scheme for Nurgle.  One thing I did learn was that I want my  boys to be brighter!  Luckily, multi-coloured Nurgle units look really good. So he'll look great once the rest of the unit is done.

and with THAT said!

Four old OOP Chaos Warriors of Nurgle!  Got these guys back in 2006 for a Demonic Legion of Nurgle army I had planned that...never happened due to 7th edition Warhammer.  Now is as good a time as any to get it done though!

With that I managed to paint 17 models with about 5 more already in the WIP stage.  I'm happy to have made progress and sure hope to beat my yearly record!

Bye for now!

It's a Cruel Summer....So Here's some Terrain!

Hello everyone!

Well its been a bit of a break as the weather...somewhat got better.  Honestly Its been mostly that I just straight wasn't in the mood to paint, but now I am!  I have several half-painted/prepped terrain that I have been working on to help extend my terrain collection.

So lets see what I managed to finish!

Some old Lord of the Rings terrain from the first box set that I attached to an MDF board.  A cool ruing building I can use for Age of Sigmar or LOTR.  Heck even D&D!

With that done I decided to clean up some other stuff I had lying around.  I was bored and wanted to do something different.  Enter this model:

It had a terrible white base coat, so I soaked it in Simple Green for 24 hours and scrubbed it off with an old tooth brush.  Got it based and properly base coated and then....

I have around 16 of these guys and I might just paint them for fun...I have 2 more soaking right now.

We shall see!

Cleaning Off the Paint Table: SNOOOOW!!!!

Hello all!

Well snows finally here (for where I am living at any rate). As a result I have had plenty of excuses to not go outside, and plenty of reasons to paint!  So to continue my "Get this crap off my paint table" extravaganza I give you more Age of Sigmar!

So I finished painting up some units for AoS.  The first are the Tomb King horse archers and the rest are Ogres for my Gutbuster force.  I know what your thinking, more Ogres?!?  and the answer to that is yes...always yes.

I managed to get a few from Ebay and putting together 1000pts of ogres for Age of Sigmar is cheap and easy.  Especially since I had a few Ogres left over from my 9th Age Ogre force.  I hope to get the unit of 6 done soon.  In the mean time lets see what else I have on my plate.

Next up!  Dunedain!  I have these three based and partially painted, just need to get them finished up (hopefully this weekend).  In addition I am continuing to get my Conan Kickstarter ready for a painting Extravaganza!

Got to let the glue dry and then I can get to base coating them...probably will need to buy more spray paint.

Until later,

Cleaning Off the Paint Table: The Fighting Uruk-Hai!

Hello once again all!

So I'm back once more with more of the minis I'm trying to get done and off my "to do" list.  This week I finished up some old Uruk-Hai Scouts I had been working on earlier this year.  If you recall my "Fellowship of the Ring" posts, where I try and get all the old Lord of the Rings Minis together to run the campaign.  I finally finished the last group I had started!

So here we have two bow wielding Uruks and, of course, Lurtz!  Sorry if the pics look a bit shiny, I had just finished giving them one last ink wash and I hadn't dull coated them yet.  That's three more minis I can eliminate from my pile (yay!).

Next up, a continuation of my Tomb Kings AoS army:

I had already started on them when I forgot I hadn't taken a picture yet.  For the first time in a long while I'm going to try and batch paint these bad boys.  I'll make a note that I hate batch painting. It's something I came to loathe after putting together something close to 150 Empire foot soldiers.  I'm going to try for this one however.

Wish me luck!

Cleaning Off the Paint Table: Getting the Hard stuff Done

Hello once again all!

So I'm back once more to show you what I managed to get done this week.  So without further ado!

Behold my terrible picture taking and weep!

I've honestly been dreading painting these models for a long time which is why I decided to just go do them.  I wasn't sure how to get a decent colour scheme for them as both the Elf and Dwarf were very "busy" models.  In the end both these D&D characters came out okay far better then I expected.  The Troll was more a case of not being sure how to paint a Stone Troll, but I like to think he came out okay.

So no on to my next bit of painting:

My fighting Uruk-Hai!

**Summer Update** - The Return of the Shadow Update #3 - D&D

Hello all!

Wow, I haven't updated this blog in awhile...probably because it's now SUMMER!  I honestly don't paint all that much in summer.  Nice weather and all that jazz usually keeps me busy.  HOWEVER!  I do sometimes pound out a mini or two. So from this point going forward (until the weather starts to turn again) I will be pretty much just painting whatever I please with no main project,

Now, that being said...

I decided I would just show you what I've been working on before SUMMER BREAK!  WOO!  I decided to get my Lord of the Rings on.  Now with this particular project I am pretty much sticking to the hobby articles as presented in "The Fellowship of the Ring" source book, this bad boy:

So with that in mind I did a test Uruk-Hai following the painting guide provided in the book.  So here's what my moderately okay painting managed to do:

I think it came out okay myself...if you manage to ignore the large mold line on it which I really should have filed down...oops.  Anyway, the instructions to get this colour scheme are pretty good so I'm going to stick with it to complete all the Uruk-Hai I need to run the Scenarios.  So far I need to buy/paint 12 Uruk-Hai Scouts with Shields, 6 with Bows an Uruk-Hai Captain and Lurtz.  Now I have Lurtz and the bowmen as well as about half the Scouts I need.  Just have to find a decent lot of 6 Metal Scouts and a Captain and I'm set!

Now that I mention that however I should add that I'm trying to put my purchasing to a minimum over the summer.  I do plan on finishing up what I bought already but in the mean time I will probably jump between projects when I update now.

That being said....

Fire Elemental!  One of my Bones minis I finally got around to painting.  Mostly because it's pretty easy to paint really although I will add that, despite me having an Averland Empire army I REALLY hate painting yellow.  I have to do a few touch ups on the tips (they should be blacker)  but I am happy with how it came out and I hope to menace my gaming group with him.

Okay I'm off to paint!

Against the Ogre Horde!: Additon Completed!

Hello all!

So I have been bust finishing up the Yetis I had bought to add to my Ogre Horde...so without further ado!

I like to think they came out okay, fortunately the colour scheme was pretty simply once I figured out how to do the dirty white fur in a way that worked.  All that is really left is to magnetize them to the Skirmish base I made and seal everything with a varnish.

This leads me to what to paint next, now I have an annoying tendency to buy minis for projects I dream up and then proceed to throw them in "the pile" as I haven't finished OTHER projects first.  Well my main plan now it to clear out all the minis I have purchased in the last 5 months regardless of what project they are for

So far I have managed to paint the yetis (as can be seen above) and the one Tomb King I managed to get.  Lets look at the other stuff I have purchased to see what else I need to paint!

Old Metal Dwarf Bolt Thrower

A Gorger!

Uruk Hai Scouts

Gil-Galad

A bunch of Gnoblar fighter/Gnoblar Trappers

Now in addition to this I also bought another lot of 3 Uruk-Hai Scouts with bows which I already have on the painting table (see previous blog entry...just can't seem to get the picture off of Ebay).  I also have a few things I picked up on the Last Chance to Buy which I plan on painting as well but my main goal now is the above.

Wish me luck!

Project Report of Unassailable Awesomeness!

Hello all!

Okay so I've been pretty busy over the last....wow, almost 2 weeks since I updated.  I've been busy getting stuff together and prepping stuff to get on the painting table.  So here's what I have going on so far.

I've mostly got painted the last of my Yetis, which pretty much just need to finish up and touch up the other two I've already finished (getting the colour scheme that I like has been a bit hit and miss)

In addition I do have some Lord of The Rings minis I plan on showing off but, as can be seen in the above photo, I have 3 Uruk-Hai Scouts as well as Lurtz ready to paint.

That Horse in the corner is a touch up of one of my Empire Army minis.  I hope to re-base him and touch up the rider.

Lastly I have those two spiders for my D&D campaign.  The bases came out okay....but my Greenstuff work needs improvement.  I've been looking into cheap alternatives for making the Stone bases.  So far only Renedra has something I like.  Although I am not sure they are the same size as a GW base....mostly so I can just glue those on the top of one and not have to worry about sculpting anymore.

Anyway I'm off to paint!

The Return of the Shadow: Update 2

Hey all!

So its been a busy weekend for me but I have a few things to share with you....okay technically I have two things to share with you...and here they are!

Well now you know how I said I was "done" with my Ogres?  Well, technically I'm not...I got these guys that I finally finished stripping, pinning, basing and green stuffing getting them ready to be painted.  I also managed to get the last two Ringwraiths I have based and ready to be sprayed.

The greenstuff still needs time to set but I hope to get the Ringwraiths done so I can move on to the 9 Dunedain I have.

Well I'm off to get that all done!
