Happy New Year! LETS PAINT STUFF!

Hello Everyone!

Alright so a new year is upon us and I haven't really been painting anything in the last 3 months...so that has got to change!

Figured I would get to work on something I hinted at last time.  So without further ado...

Garrek's Reavers!  The first 3 minis in the warband at least.  The last two are currently drying after a vigorous wash.  Meanwhile Steelhearts Champions are currently half built and waiting for a less humid day to get base coated.

I mean to get this box set done so I can move on to another mini project I've been planning for.

My local game store got a stock of Mantic's Terrain crates and I picked up one of the smaller sets.  In addition I have this Bones blacksmith that I figure I'll paint up to go with it too.  All of this if for a D&D campaign I'm currently working on and figured I could use some more townspeople for it.

Cleaning off the Paint Table: Back for a New round and new Army!

Hello all!

Well I'm back!  after a rather long hiatus where I barely put brush to paint I decided to sit down and force myself to get some painting done.  I figured something quick to just to ease into it again so I can get my groove on.

Three Giant rats for my D&D Campaign!  Now I had painted these up specifically for "The Sunless Citadel" as the adventurers will run into these buggers right at the beginning.  I have to paint a few more but I can add these to my Dungeon Encounter list!

Now to move on to something else.  Frankly I have been lazy and I really haven't been painting as much as I should.  So my goal is to pound out at least ONE model by the end of the week.

With that in mind I have just gotten this

Shadespire!  I'm already in the process of painting them up.  Hopefully I'll have it done by the end of the week.

Cleaning off the Paint Table: Long month but done!

Hello everyone!

Well, after a month of nothing I figured I'd finish up one of my pet projects I've been working on.  The weather has been great!  Which means I'm not inside hunched over my paint table.  Now it was rainy all weekend so I huddled up and finished some more terrain!

Keeping with my act of making cheap and easy terrain I gathered the above supplies.  Paper towels, wooden Bar-B-Q skewers and coffee stirs.  An old CD, Polystyrene, water and glue.

Using white glue and the paper towels I soaked them in water, covered them in white glue and rolled them around my wooden skewer.  I then built the base on the CD using the Polystyrene and a glue gun.  I used the glue gun to put texture on the tree as well as making the "branches" out of coffee stirs.

After everything was dried I painted it up using basic dry brush techniques.  I then got some insulation foam and glued it to the branches, painted it green, and glued some flock all over it to create the giant you see before you!

I have one more piece I mean to finish up before I call my Summer of Terrain complete.

Cleaning off the Paint Table: Storm Hosting

Hello everyone!

Summer is my slow period, I don't like to stay in and hunker down in front of my paint table too much when the weather is nice.   As a result, I don't get much done.  That doesn't mean I don't get some stuff done!

So with that said...

The first painted unit for my Hallowed Knights Stormhost.  The plan is to get 1000pt army together so I have more options when putting together battle reports.  Most of my friends enjoy the game but aren't big on the whole buying/painting minis like I am.  So usually when they want to play I just loan them one of my armies.  Most of them are for Fantasy Battle/9th Age/Kings of War however, and I want more dedicated AoS armies.  This is one of them which I hope to get done soon, once I get my hands on the last stuff I need.

Now, that all being said I also want to make sure I have a good table to play on!  So I've been slowly upping my Terrain and working on different stuff.  One such inspiration was for simple scatter terrain.

So grabbing some random stuff I have lying around I began my journey!  An old CD for a base, some foam and glue to start.

So in order to make a mini scatter hill I used an knife and a hand sander to model the hill into a shape I wanted.  I also ran the sander over the CD to give it a rough surface so it would take glue and paint better.

Voila! after applying sand and some decorative rocks I got at the dollar store for effect I got it ready to prime.

This is after I applied the primer/sealer.  It's just black craft paint mixed with Mod Podge.  It's ideal for working with foam as it hardens it up and prevents chipping.  Note to everyone DON'T USE SPRAY PRIMER!  The accelerant in spray paint melts foam....I learned that the hard way.

Here's the final product after painting/flocking/sealing the grass with watered down Mod Podge.  Quick and easy!  In fact the longest step is waiting for the Mod Podge to dry.  I got 3 more scatter pieces I'm working on right now before I work on something...larger.

Cleaning off the Paint Table: Dungeon Delving

Hello everyone!

It's been a bit busy this month but I did get some stuff done. rather then go on a rant I think I'll just throw down what I've painted and let you be the judge!

Bam! Displacer Beast!  I really like this mini although I really hate the base they come on.  I modified it with some polystyrene to boost him up a bit.  Displacer Beasts are one of my favourite monsters and I use them quite a bit in my campaigns.  I'm really glad I finally have a decent model of one.  Especially since getting those old D&D minis from 3rd are getting harder and harder to come by.

Lets see what else is on the block for me to paint:

BAM!  Rats and Goblins for my Sunless Citadel campaign.  It's been to humid to basecoat the goblins but I think I can bang out those rats pretty quickly.

Cleaning off the Paint Table: Blood for the Blood God!

Hello everyone!

So I managed to get some painting done!  First I want to say, OMG this took me a long time to get done.  I've been working off and on with this mini for at least 2 weeks to get the paint right.  I followed the GW videos as a template but damn!  There are so many little bits on it I just took the general guide and modified it to my liking.

So without further ado....

My Mighty Lord of Khorne!  Completed and ready for action! 

I decided to work on my Bloodbound force...that is before the weather turned crap and it's been too humid to basecoat any more minis, but at least he's done and I can try to focus on the other stuff I had prepared in my last post.

The first minis completed for my Sunless Citadel campaign.  Now I probably have to hit them with a dull coat as those rats are pretty shiny.  I also probably have to do a touch up on the bases as the colour isn't as dark as I'd like.  Despite that I'm happy with how they came out and am on to my next mini...

Now this is the first of the Nolzur's line of D&D minis that I ever got, so i'm curious on how they will paint up.  Also, I really hate how low the bases for these minis are. I have no spare large GW base so i'm "modifying" it with some polystyrene.  I'll be sure to post it once I finally finish it all up.

Project Battlefield: I have a surprising amount of Unfinished Terrain

Hello again all!

So going through my pile of unfinished terrain I decided to actually put paint on a particular piece I've had sitting around for awhile.  I had bought a lot of pieces of the Garden of Morr set back when it looked like GW was discontinuing the line.  Then they re-released it again making the entire thing pointless!

Despite that I have a few random pieces I got cheap that I decided to just throw together into a few terrain pieces.  I decided to work on the easy one first...so without further ado:

Here it is!  All I did was glue the plastic base for the Garden of Morr on a MDF base I cut and sculpted a foot path using miliput.  This is probably the easiest terrain piece I've put together, and that includes the stone hill!

I plan on making more terrain but I got an itch to paint a few mini I have half-prepped.

I got some D&D minis I want to get done and, of course, a Mighty Lord of Khorne!  I think it's time I put some effort into another Age of Sigmar force before 2nd edition come out.
